If all Muslims are to be held to the acts of extremists, then why isn’t the standard applied in the opposite, when a Muslim does something heroic and just? Shouldn’t the logic now be that Islam is a religion of peace?
A Muslim employee of a kosher grocery store in Paris is being hailed as a hero for hiding several customers in a walk-in freezer to save them from a violent gunman.
Lassana Bathily, 24, led the others into the basement of his workplace, Hyper Cacher, when Amedy Coulibaly opened fire on Friday, according to French media.
The gunman burst into the store just hours before the Jewish Sabbath began and killed four people in what President François Hollande called “a terrifying anti-Semitic act.”
“I opened the door, and several people came in with me. I turned off the lights, I turned off the freezer, and they got into the freezer,” Bathily told local station BFMTV. “I told them to calm down, to not make noise. If he knows we’re here, he can come down and kill us.”
The young man managed to exit the facility through a freight elevator, but when he got outside, police mistook him for one of the terrorists and cuffed him, he said.
Bathily says he helped the officers with his knowledge of the floor plan as they prepared to storm the grocery store in the Porte de Vincennes neighborhood of the capital.
The people he saved expressed profound gratitude after the violence was over, he said.
“When they got out, they congratulated me,” Bathily told the station. “They said, ‘Honestly, thank you for having thought of that,’ and I said, ‘You’re welcome. It’s nothing, that’s life.’”
A source told Le Parisien that six people had been holed up in the freezer.

I hope he gets a reward from our government from this act. He should be an example to a lot of young people because he saved lives.
he should as he was brave but the reality is that because he was Muslim he deserves extra praise. If you look at this from another point of view; The UK is secular Christian only in name if a British man did the same against white UK criminals who took hostages it would have just been a brave man doing the right thing to save lives.Its getting to the stage that many young Muslims in Europe are only Muslim by name which freaks out the older more religious adults mostly immigrants born abroad.
Im going off track a bit here but am interested in talking to others about these issues. I am white live in London born and raised in Scotland and am concerned about social cohesion in the UK. The UK young Muslims go to clubs,drink,smoke drugs ,have relationships without marriage the older people are scared of the dilution of their religion.My parents went to church ,I went to bible classes our parents didn’t like it but didn’t impress upon us ideological bigotry, our what seems to be the biggest problem in my area in London which is mostly Muslims segregation and an ignorant view of stereotypes.
Finally Muslim youth are struggling to find a clear definitive image of their own for some of the reasons stated above so they either go along with what is expectable by their parents and often become more conservative or look to the other mainstream former immigrants the blacks and copy their youth culture and all the negatives of their culture language,music,gangs,negative connotations of females and crime.Young offenders ijails are full of young muslims particularly for drug offences. Yes ,I se this as I I live in London, Ilford to be precise and see this all the time and all my neighbours are Muslim my ex wife was Muslim so I do have first hand experience on a subject that needs lots of debate not violence, we have more in common than we all think
